Hong Kong Top Sights: Animal Walk

Animal Walk is a journey shaped by imagination, created in 2009. The project began as three pocket-sized travel books, each named after a Hong Kong place with an animal in its name—Kai Kuk Shue Ha (Chicken Valley), Wu Lei Tau (Fox Head), and Luk Chau Tsuen (Deer Island Village). I photographed daily life in each village while searching for “animals” in any form—real, symbolic, or imagined. Three writers contributed short stories inspired by these names, extending the project into fiction.

This new version brings the three books together with English translations. It invites viewers to explore these villages with curiosity, imagination, and a tactile sense of discovery—showing how a place can be experienced not only by observing, but also by imagining and touching.

The cover is made from handmade paper crafted from wild plants gathered from the landscape, reinforcing the project’s connection to nature and the rural origins of these villages.
